Montreal, Canada - January 25, 2010 -Each year the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) honors one horse and one rider whose individual accomplishments during the previous competition year left a lasting impression on the world of equestrian sport.
Cavalor rider and three-time Olympic veteran Steffen Peters was honored as the 2009 USEF Equestrian of the Year following his history making performances at the 2009 Rolex FEI World Cup Dressage Final in Las Vegas and World Equestrian Festival - CDIO in Aachen, Germany.
Peters, who also won the award in 2008 and who put his horses on Cavalor feed starting in 2009, joins Beezie Madden as the only riders in history to receive this award two years in a row. Madden was named USEF Equestrian of the Year in 2005 and 2006. USEF President and 2000 Individual Olympic Gold Medalist, David O'Connor, won the award in 2000 and 2002, is the only other rider who has twice been named USEF Equestrian of the Year.
Just one night prior to Peters' award, the USEF honored Ravel, the horse which Peters rode to victory at both the Rolex FEI World Cup Final and the World Equestrian Festival, as the Farnam®/PlatformTM Horse of the Year. Ravel is owned by Aikiko Yamazaki.
While the USEF presents these two awards separately, the fact that Peters and Ravel both were honored speaks volumes to the star power these two have when they are together.
"Steffen and Ravel are the perfect ambassadors of the Cavalor brand," said Philippe Collard, President of Cavalor, Inc. "They made history with their accomplishments in 2009, and Cavalor is proud to be supporting them as they look to make 2010 just as memorable."
Cavalor, whose complete line of supplements, care and feed products which address the diverse needs and requirements of top sport horses and breeding stables, welcomed Peters and Ravel to their team of riders in early May after their victory at the World Cup Final in Las Vegas. Peters followed his historic performance in Las Vegas by becoming the first US rider to sweep Aachen's Grand Prix, Grand Prix Spéciale and Grand Prix Freestyle at the World Equestrian Festival with Ravel.
"Last year was very intense for us," said Peters. "I know that having Ravel on Cavalor feed products helped give us that winning edge."
Other riders who depend on Cavalor products to feed and care for their world-class horses also include three-time Olympic individual gold medalist and nine-time Dressage World Cup Champion Anky Van Grunsven of The Netherlands, nine-time Olympic veteran and two-time show jumping World Cup Champion Ian Millar of Canada; four-time Olympic show jumping veteran Ludo Phillipaerts of Belgium; Olympic show jumping individual gold medalist Eric Lamaze of Canada; show jumping World Champion Jos Lansink of Belgium; and top U.S show jumping rider and "Cavalor Young Champion," Hillary Dobbs.
